Internships With Other University of Iowa Programs

Iowa First Nations Summer Program

The Iowa First Nations Program (IFN) provides Native American student high school students the opportunity to live on campus, experience the university setting, explore majors, learn more about the Native American culture, and gain an appreciation for the variety of opportunities at Iowa. Participants will attend structured classroom seminars and field trips to various campus departments, enjoy hands-on classroom experiences, and have the opportunity to get involved in social and recreational activities.

We aim to provide a space for Indigenous youth to learn about themselves, their community, and the college experience.

For questions on the Summer Program, contact the Office of Access and Support at daod-oas@uiowa.edu.

Belin-Blank Center

At the Belin-Blank Center, we believe that students deserve the chance to learn new things, develop their talents, and make friends who share their interests and abilities. Our programs are designed to do just that. Whether you're looking for a fun way to spend your summer, a way to add challenge to your school day, or even to start college early, we have something to meet your unique needs as a gifted learner. Please note that students do not need to be in a gifted program or identified as gifted to participate in our programs.

A college journey at the University of Iowa embraces meaningful academic experiences and the development of a host of important skills that includes independence, social-emotional maturity, effective communication, and career readiness. The Belin-Blank Center's Academy for Twice-Exceptionality is a new program that partners with neurodiverse college students to foster and support these experiences and skills and enhance community engagement as an Iowa Hawkeye.

Through the Academy for Twice-Exceptionality, we strive to ensure that neurodiverse students have a positive and fulfilling college experience through a focus on nurturing students’ talents while also creating a sense of community and helping students connect with resources from the Belin-Blank Center, the University of Iowa, and the broader community. We aim for your destination to be success!

TRIO Upward Bound

The TRIO Upward Bound Project is a federal program that helps first-generation and low-income high school students at Columbus Community, Muscatine, or West Liberty High Schools in Iowa prepare for postsecondary education. We empower students to advocate for their education and achieve their postsecondary goals. Upward Bound began in 1964 and has been part of the University of Iowa since 1966. Since then, we have served thousands of students in the Eastern Iowa area. Upward Bound has numerous opportunities for involvement throughout the year for participants and community members alike. We invite you to explore our site and learn more about our program! TRIO Upward Bound at the University of Iowa is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Education.

External Partners in Iowa Offering Internships

Kirkwood Community College

Engaging in Kirkwood Community College's Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) programming allows businesses to connect with potential future employees, get a glimpse of their upcoming workforce, and make students aware of opportunities available in our community.

Internships are a great way for high school students to get experience, gain new skills, and learn more about different jobs and career fields. Talk to your high school counselor to determine if an internship is right for you. Students in grades 11 and 12 in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Washington Counties are eligible to apply.

High school juniors and seniors who participate in the internship program earn dual credit through Kirkwood Community College and their local high school. They experience career exploration onsite with a business/organization while learning professional development with WLC. Students need access to a device when participating in a WLC internship.
